Morals of Torture Blog Post #3
March 11th, 2009 by tannerj
Many people look at torture in a different perspective. Some christians believe it defiles god, becaus man was made in the image of him (ACAT). Others believe it is inhuman, and no-one, no matter the crime should have to be subjected to torture. However the men who murder are not, even if thy thik they are, christian, so why sould they be treated like one. They have aready committed inhuman acts so they should know what death feels like. I have no probem with torture, as long as it, jut like other questionable acts, is only used in a life or death situation. Torturing one individual who knows plans of a terrorist attack that will kill thousands is just. Do nothing and the civilians will die, or do something (torture the terrorist) and there is a chance they will live. A chance, no matter how small is better than no chance at all.

The Evolution of Torture Blog post #2
March 11th, 2009 by tannerj
Torture, which many do not know, was first created to force false confessions from innocent people. Over the years torture has changed from obtaining flase confessions to “beating the truth” out of the guilty. According to Evan Thompson, torturers have tried to justify the unjust and modern torture is just and cruel and unjust as the past(Amnesty International). People don’t deserve to go through that sort of pain, no matter what they have done. They are being mentally and physically abused for something they may have nothing to do with. If my friend was planning a shooting, and i honestly knew nothing of it, i would not deserve to have my toenails ripped out, or to be waterboarded just because i did not put out information. This is a prime example of how currupt our government is because this happens every day on a much broader scale. We may not do it directly, but when we suspects to Egypt or China, and what do you honestly think they do to them? Surprise them with an all you can eat buffet? No i suspect that it is and has been much worse. Governments should stop allowing this act of renditon and buck up against what is really right.

Torture Post #1

For many centuries torture has been used as a means of interrogation. However in todays day and age humans rights activists protest against it as immoral and inhuman. I, on the other hand, disagree with their opinion. Torture may be extremely harsh but it is a reliable way to get critical information in a wartime situation.
Torture should only be used as a method of interrogation in a wartime or ticking time bomb situation. I agree that there are other ways to interrogate a criminal but if thousands of lives were at risk, in a matter of hours, torture would be the most effective way to gain the information needed to save those lives. Obviously a line should be drawn for when to and when not to torture. According to Peter Zoralski, torture is not just for petty crimes (ACLU). Torture doesn’t work on everyone either. Torture can acquire false reslts but that doesnt mean its not worth a shot.
If torture is to be justified, todays day and age is the time for it. There are more crimes and terrorist attackes now thean ever and American needs a way to prevent it. Torture is the best bet on preventing these attacks and i believe that in this situaion it is just.

Is Torture Justified?
February 6th, 2009 by tannerj
I agree that torture can be justified in some situations. It is a method that could save a life and that alone is enough. Life is not something another human should be able to take and in a “ticking time bomb” situation torture could save these lives. Some may argue that the criminals who attempt this deserve rights but i believe they forfeit these rights when they attempt to take someones life. Torture almost never causes permanent damage to these criminals, and the next day it is if they were never tortured.
